Several officers attached to the Welikada police are likely to be arrested shortly in connection with the assault and the subsequent death of the maid who worked for the controversial female character Sudharma Neththikumara.

According to reports, several other officers at the police station would be transferred too. In the investigations conducted by the Special Crime Investigation Unit, it has now been revealed that the woman was assaulted by both male and female officers.

It has also been revealed that she has been arrested and detained illegally.

On the morning of the 11th, Sudharma Nethikumara reported that she had lost a ring and that her former housemaid was suspected.

At the time of the arrest, the housemaid in question was working as a maid in another house on Cotta Rd., Borella. This woman was arrested, detained illegally, and beaten up. She died after being hospitalized in serious condition. It has been revealed that the Welikada Police Station Officer in Charge attempted to conceal information from higher officials regarding the incident. Investigations further revealed that information has been received that this immediate arrest and assault took place due to the influence exerted by a senior police officer on the Officer-in-Charge of the Welikada Police. However, a senior police officer told Lankasara that all police officers involved in this criminal behaviour would be dealt with severely according to the instructions given by police headquarters.
