Theldeniya Police have uncovered a second high-value vehicle allegedly linked to former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte, adding a new twist to an ongoing investigation. The latest discovery involves a Mitsubishi Jeep valued at approximately Rs 40 million, found with fake license plates.
The vehicle was located in the garage of an unoccupied residence within the Digana ICC housing complex. Authorities determined that the number plate on the Jeep actually belonged to a red Prado owned by a woman from the Pilawala area in Kandy, indicating the Jeep was operating under fraudulent registration.
Just six days earlier, police seized a Toyota Lexus from the garage of a three-story house on Amudeniya Hall Road, within the Mirihana police jurisdiction. This property is reportedly owned by Ratwatte’s wife. Preliminary investigations revealed that the Lexus had tampered chassis and engine numbers and was an illegally assembled vehicle without proper registration with customs or the Department of Motor Traffic.
Ratwatte is currently in custody, remanded until November 7, in connection with the stolen Lexus. Police have ordered an expert evaluation of the recently discovered Jeep, continuing their investigation into what appears to be a series of luxury vehicles with falsified documentation.
