A Police Complaint against Dr. Sudath Samaraweera

A complaint has been lodged with the IGP against the former Director of the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, and its official alleging misrepresentation of Covid related statistics, breach of statutory duty, and endangerment of national security. Attorney-at-Law Aruna Laksiri Unawatuna has taken steps to make this compliant seeking a proper investigation on the above allegations.
Mr. Unawatuna has mentioned in the letter sent to the IGP that the Epidemiology Unit and Dr. Sudath Samaraweera and other government officials have misrepresented the statistics on the number of people who have died of corona infection. The complaint alleges that these government officials have committed offenses under Section 289 of the Penal Code, including endangering national security, and that the Coronavirus should be enforced to check and misrepresent and misrepresent the statistics of those who have died of corona infection. He urges IGP to check whether the victims actually died of the coronavirus or died of negligence and whether the statistics and reports submitted were correct and to take legal action against those who committed the offenses.
