Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe states although he is ready to resign, it should happen according to the provisions stipulated in the constitution.
If he was to step down, he should know the framework of the all-party interim government and whether the Prime Minister so nominated enjoys the confidence of the majority.
Speaker can only become the President in the event if the President and the Prime Minister are not in a position to act in these positions.
The Prime Minister stressed he would not resign just because the opposition or some section of the country wanted him to do so.
The Prime Minister has also confirmed that the President will leave as announced earlier. In the current situation, the Prime Minister is the acting President of the country after the resignation of the President.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe believes he commands the confidence of 113 members of Parliament as the Prime Minister.
