The stock of AstraZeneca Covid vaccine which was to be received from Japan had not arrived in the country as planned due to an attempt made to hold for media show for a powerful young politician Lankasara learns.
According to the sources The UNICEF, Japan’s AstraZeneca manufacturer Daiichi Sankyo company and the Japanese government have worked out a plan to supply the vaccine to Sri Lanka through the COVAX facility this week as scheduled.
However, the said young politician who doesn’t even hold any health portfolio has made a request to bring down the Vaccines as he was scheduled, in order to pretend he was the man behind bringing long-awaited AstraZeneca to the country.
However, neither the Japanese government nor UNICEF has responded to the request. Reliable sources revealed to Lankasara.
AstraZeneca has given the first dose to nearly 925,000 people in the Western Province, of which nearly 537,000 have not yet been vaccinated with the second dose.
