As the players prepared for the second one-day match of the series today, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium last night (14) to meet the Sri Lankan and Pakistani players.
Naqvi visited a group of Sri Lankan players, who, concerned about the security situation following the recent bomb blast in Islamabad, had considered abandoning the tournament and returning home. That plan, however, was later averted.
The purpose of his visit was to boost the morale of the Sri Lankan players and reassure them of their safety. He emphasized the Pakistan Cricket Board’s commitment to ensuring the security and well-being of all players and staff.
During the visit, Naqvi expressed appreciation for the Sri Lankan team’s decision to continue in the tournament despite the tense atmosphere. He was seen engaging in friendly discussions with head coach Sanath Jayasuriya, captain Charith Asalanka, and other players.
The Sri Lankan team continues to remain in Pakistan under tight security as the tournament proceeds.
