The acute shortage of cancer drugs has impeded treatment at the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama, putting the lives of cancer patients at grave risk.
.A hospital spokesman told Lankasara that it has not been possible to save the lives of cancer patients as eight essential cancer drugs are already out of stock.

The spokesman added that the entire staff is ready to come out with the patients to get the government’s attention on this situation.
He said that 13 types of medicines were obtained from donors over a period of three months, but at present, 8 types of medicines are in short supply.
The spokesman said that the donations received by the government’s medical supply department at the diplomatic level were given to the hospital, but at present, those donations and the donations to the hospital have declined, so it is not possible to provide the patients with essential drugs.
He said that the majority of cancer patients who come to the hospital for treatment are turned away empty-handed without receiving treatment, and thus there is a lot of uncertainty about their life expectancy.
