Final rites of the late former state minister Palitha Thewarapperuma took place yesterday evening amidst the large number of gatherings in Matugama. His remains were buried in a special grave site made by the late politician himself.
Following the religious proceedings, several speeches were made and condolence messages were read at the funeral. Late minister Palitha Thewarapperuma’s close relatives including wife Amitha Nalingani and his Son and daughter took part in the final proceedings. The remains were taken to his gravesite situated at his land in the Matugama Yatadolwatta area while thousands of people grieving the loss of their beloved politician. They all recalled his immense service towards people when they were in trouble as a humble social worker with great gratitude.
According to his long-time driver and mate Chinthaka who revealed to the media no mason came forward to construct Palitha’s grave because they were reluctant to be a partner in making a grave for their soulmate politician. According to Chinthaka Thewarapperuma has built his grave by himself using bricks and cements.
” He wanted to sleep in the grave one day he was alive. He told me that he wanted to go to Anuradhapura to worship first and to sleep alive in the grave. We went to Anuradhapura during the Avurudu days. But before he took his grave experience alive unfortunately we had to bury his body. ” he said.
