Owner of Leading Kottu Chain Arrested Over Alleged Assault of Employee

The owner of one of Sri Lanka’s leading Kottu restaurant chains, Mr. Kottu, was arrested by the Maharagama Police today (30) for allegedly verbally abusing and physically assaulting an employee.

The Police Media Division stated that the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.

CCTV footage allegedly showing the owner brutally assaulting an employee at one of the restaurant’s outlets was widely circulated on social media, drawing strong criticism and public outrage.

Following the circulation of the video, the Police Department directed the Maharagama Police to conduct a special investigation into the incident. The arrest was subsequently made after extensive inquiries.

Police investigations have further revealed that the alleged assault took place on May 5. Further investigations are ongoing.
