One Sri Lankan crew member who was missing after an oil tanker capsized off the Oman Coast has been rescued by the Indian Navy. The INS warship Teg has rescued nine crew members out of 16. The Comoros-flagged oil tanker MT Falcon Prestige capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, near the port town of Duqn in Oman. There were 16 crew members on board: 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans.
The Indian warship was deployed promptly upon learning of the incident for Search and Rescue efforts. The operations are being carried out under challenging weather conditions, with reports indicating rough seas and strong winds in the area. India has also provided air support by deploying the Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I.
Search operations continue for the remaining crew members, consisting of five Indians and two Sri Lankans. The Prestige Falcon is a 117-meter-long oil tanker built in 2007, capable of carrying around 4400 tons of oil.
