Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith says he has a reasonable suspicion that the government has struck a deal with Muslim lawmakers to pass the 20th Amendment last year. He further said that was happened despite the leader was saying Muslim votes are not needed to pass it.
The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, told a media briefing today that he had doubts after seven members of a party voted in favor of the 20th Amendment while the leader of one party voted against it.
Speaking further, the Archbishop said
“ There is a reasonable doubt that there is some kind of deal. I said this when Rishad Badurdeen’s brother was released before this amendment. This vote was based on some kind of consensus. It is clear that it would not be fair for us to put the investigation into the Easter attack into this situation. Who carried out this attack? No answer has yet been found as to who sponsored it. That question must be answered. One or two, these are the ones who will not be left behind. We demand that the Attorney General be given the necessary documents to expedite the proper punishment of the guilty.
