General Election 2024: NPP Dominates Early Results in Rathnapura and Galle Postal Votes

The initial results from the 2024 General Election show a strong lead for the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) in the postal votes from the Rathnapura and Galle districts, with over 75% of the vote share.

In Rathnapura, the NPP received 24,776 votes, securing 79% of the total votes cast. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) came in second with 2,969 votes, representing 9.51%. The New Democratic Front, which contested under the gas cylinder symbol, placed third with 1,528 votes, or 4.51%. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), the ruling party from the previous regime, received 1,031 votes, which is 3.31%.

In the Galle district, the NPP received 32,296 votes, making up 79% of the vote share. The SJB obtained 3,523 votes (8.63%), while the New Democratic Front secured 1,964 votes. The SLPP trailed with 1,846 votes.
