It is revealed that there will be a short fall of vegetable supply further and higher prices will remain further. This will happen due to the delays in cultivation as the recent heavy rains and the lack of chemical fertilizers, R. Bandara, Provincial Director, Department of Agriculture said today.
He further said that this was revealed following a survey conducted by the Department of Agriculture in this regard.
For this reason, he said, it was not possible to expect a significant reduction in vegetable prices in the future and that steps would be taken to increase the yield as much as possible under the prevailing conditions.
He was speaking at a media briefing at the Grand Kandyan Hotel in Kandy following a conference on International Development Cooperation on the launch of small and medium enterprises’ organic crop products into the European market.
