Mayor Jim Diodati foresees April 8 as setting a record for the highest number of visitors in a single day, with an estimated 1 million individuals expected to descend upon the city. This influx is significant compared to the average annual visitation of 14 million.
The declaration of a state of emergency, announced on Thursday, empowers the city to undertake additional planning measures to address potential challenges such as traffic congestion, overloaded cell phone networks, increased demand for emergency services, and more.

The eclipse is set to traverse Mexico’s Pacific coast in the morning before cutting diagonally across the United States from Texas to Maine, ultimately exiting in Eastern Canada by late afternoon.
