An 18-year-old unmarried girl, a resident of Homadolawatte, Udugama, was admitted to Udugama Hospital today (07) after concealing her childbirth by claiming to have a stomach ailment, as reported by the Udagama police.
The Medical professionals at the hospital discovered that the young woman had given birth to a child despite the claims of a stomachache. Upon further inquiry, the girl admitted to leaving the newborn baby in the bathroom sink.
Hospital sources reveal that the family health officer from Udugama Hospital subsequently visited the girl’s residence and brought the child to the hospital. Tragically, it was too late, and the newborn had already passed away.

Authorities are working to determine whether this was a stillbirth or if the baby died after being abandoned in the sink.
