Vehicle owners who were unable to obtain the Fuel Pass QR code will be able to register using a new number from this evening, according to the Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), Dr. Mayura Neththikumarage.

He also announced that an odd–even number plate system for fuel distribution will be implemented from tomorrow (19) to manage the growing demand and limited supply.

Under this system, vehicles with number plates ending in even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, and 8) will be allowed to obtain fuel on even-numbered dates. Meanwhile, vehicles with number plates ending in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, and 9) will be permitted to refuel on odd-numbered dates.

Dr. Neththikumarage further stated that from tomorrow, fuel distribution will be strictly carried out under this rotating system.

The CPC noted that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted fuel supply routes on a daily basis, while domestic demand has increased significantly. As a result, authorities have been compelled to conserve existing fuel reserves.

In response to the situation, the government has already reintroduced the Fuel Pass QR code system from March 16 to ensure controlled and efficient fuel distribution across the country.
