The new Chairman of Committee of Public Enterprises Professor Ranjith Bandara invites the former chairman of the COPE Professor Charitha Herath to present details and facts on exposed frauds and corruptions to the committee.

Professor Ranjith Bandara said that instead of showing the files related to fraud and corruption to the public, Anura Kumara Dissanayake should present them to the court through a lawyer or the pile of files will only get bigger after another year.

He emphasized that nobody can bring files to the COPE committee and hand them over since COPE is not a court.

The Chairman of the COPE Committee said that the new drafts of the Attorney General to fight corruption have been submitted to the Parliament and the powers of the COPE Committee will be increased under it.

He said that although we have been talking at length about fighting fraud and corruption in this country for a long time, we have not been able to prepare the necessary legal framework in an adequate manner.

The chairman stated this while speaking to the media when a self-service branch of the People’s Bank was opened today (11) in the Weligalla area of Udunuwara.
