Dr Neville Fernando, the founder of SAITM Private University and the Neville Fernando Hospital in Malabe, who made a mark in Sri Lankan politics, has passed away.
He passed away today while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the IDH Hospital in Colombo after contracting Covid 19. He was 90 at the time of his death. Neville Fernando is a former politician.
In the 8th Parliamentary Election in 1977 he was elected to Parliament representing the Panadura electorate. Dr Neville Fernando also set a world record for filing a controversial no-confidence motion against the then Leader of the Opposition Amirthalingam. This was because it was the first no-confidence motion filed against an opposition leader in the world.
