Negligible relaxation of this long weekend will decide the Country’s future lock down – PHIs warn

If the public not adhere strictly the health guidelines to be followed in order top prevention of Covid virus in the coming long weekend country will go for another difficult time in the next Christmas season, Upul Rohana, President of the Public Health Inspectors’ Association warns. He further points out about a risk of even the closure of schools if the public do not concern about the health guidelines.

He added that reports from his public health inspectors indicate that large numbers of people are now flocking to remote areas to spend this long weekend.

“We observe a lot of people going on excursions to spend the weekend. Others are seen traveling to different parts of the country for the weekend. At present we are informed that these people are ignoring the health advice. Also enjoying swimming in the lakeside areas. “

“Currently, corona patients are being reported in large numbers in many parts of Sri Lanka. This means that there is a risk of corona virus spreading across the country again. Therefore, people who travel unsafely are at high risk of contracting the corona virus. “

“Therefore, all of them should take it into consideration to strictly follow the health guidelines. Otherwise, the country will have to close completely next Christmas and reopen existing schools. ”

Upul Rohana says that it will be decided whether the country will be closed or schools will be closed due to the behavior of the people.
