Nearly 56 people who had direct access to inmates of the Kandakadu drug rehabilitation center, Polonnaruwa have left the center by now.

According to sources health officials and security forces are scrambling to take necessary steps about the persons identified as counselors who had been contributing to the center.

Currently close to 605 PCR tests have been done on the inmates of the center. Officially 57 have been confirmed as positive for Covid 19. However certain media reports have claimed the numbers are high as 230.

Unofficial reports say health officials believe that the virus has spread within the center through the group of drug addicts found in Suduwella and brought to the center for rehabilitation.
