MPs ask for hotel rooms to stay in Colombo!

MPs who are unable to travel to rural areas due to the fuel crisis have requested him to book hotel rooms in Colombo Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said in the Parliament today.

He was responding to a question raised by Housing and Urban Development Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

Minister. Prasanna Ranatunga said that such priority was not necessary as the MPs had not asked for fuel privileges and such news spread in the media are create further unrest among the public.

Replying to the Minister, the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that during the war as in the 1980s, priority was given to providing the necessary fuel for the Members of Parliament to come to Parliament. The Prime Minister said that this too would be done accordingly and that there would be no such priority in the when it is not a parliament day .

The Speaker raised the issue of allocating hotel rooms for MPs who are unable to travel to rural areas due to inability to obtain fuel for vehicles.
