Polonnaruwa District Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala, who was returning from a rally at Temple Trees demanding that the Prime Minister stay in office, has shot himself with his firearm at Nittambuwa. He has died following a dispute with angry protesters who blocked the main road.
Following the attack on Gota Gogama, he was returning with his bodyguards when he was caught in a protest crossing the Kandy road in Nittambuwa.
When the protesters surrounded the vehicle in which he arrived. At this point, the somebody has opened fire on the protesters.
