More 34 ICU beds to be added for Covid treatments

Steps will be taken to add another 34 Intensive Care beds to the hospital system in the next few days Dr Anwar Amdani, Co-ordinator of Covid -19, related affairs of Ministry of Health, said. These ICU beds will be added to the existing 187 ICU beds allocated for Covid patients are currently being treated he further said

He says the number of oxygen-dependent Covid patients has risen to 936 and it is not clear how much this number will increase in the coming days.

Yesterday, the President of the college of Physicians pointed out that 20 per cent of Covid patients who die in Colombo die at home.

Given the current rate of spread of the covid virus in the country, it is not possible to enforce the curfew, tighten restrictions, increase regulations or issue health guidelines in the country and control the disease to the fullest extent possible. When asked about it, Dr Anwar Amdani said.
