Six people who allegedly painted a bleak picture of Sri Lanka as soon as tourists set foot in this country were arrested by the police special task force at the Katunayake Airport.

The STF took steps to arrest six touts who bring tourists under duress to a private taxi stand on a charge that they acted in violation of the rights of the people by harassing tourists coming into the country.

These touts thrive on the commission they make by getting tourists to this taxi stand.

It has been observed that these touts, who get a commission from vehicle owners by directing the tourists to the taxis, wait in front of the airport arrivals terminal and forcefully put the tourists in the taxis as they enter the country without their consent. In addition to that, they forcefully load the luggage of people coming to Sri Lanka and extort money, which has become a nuisance to the people at the arrivals.

A senior police officer told Lankasara that the rest of the gang, who are acting like vandals, will be identified and arrested soon.
