Mannar High Court Judge MMM Mihal has sentenced a school principal from the Selvanagar area of Mannar to seven years of rigorous imprisonment with hard labor for the rape of a ten-year-old minor girl within the school premises.
In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the principal to pay a fine of 25,000 rupees and provide one lakh rupees in compensation to the girl.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed on September 23, 2014, alleging the rape of a 10-year-old female student at a Mannar school. The Mannar police subsequently arrested the principal and presented the case to the Mannar court.
The High Court Judge issued this verdict after the case involving the principal was transferred to the Mannar High Court.
The incident of the girl’s rape was substantiated based on her testimony, forensic medical reports, and other scientific evidence. The accused principal admitted to making a false accusation in court.
Following the announcement of the verdict by the High Court judge, the accused principal displayed emotional distress in the courtroom and pleaded for his release.
Mr. Chezan Mahboom, Government Counsel of the Attorney General’s Department, represented the prosecution in the case.
