Narendra Modi’s Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) is preparing to use a Hindi vesrion cover song of Sri Lankan youth singer Yohani de Silva’s “Manike Mage Hithe” for its Uttar Pradesh state elections, foreign media reports.
The party’s latest election campaign anthem for the Uttar Pradesh elections is “Yehi Modi – Yogi – UP Yogi, UP Yogi … B … Yegi Deer Se BJP”. The people should go to the polls to send the message to Prime Minister Modi and Chief Ministerial candidate Yogi.
According to the Indian media, the use of the sensitive Sinhala song “Menike Mage Hithe” for this campaign is an attractive approach.
Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest state, will go to the polls on February 10.
Menike used a remake of the song My Heart for last year’s Bengali by-election.
That was on behalf of Mamata Banerjee’s election campaign of the All India Trinamool Congress. The Babanipore by-election was held on September 30.
Mamata Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress, who used the ‘Menike’ version of the election, defeated Priyanka Tibrewal of the BJP by 58835 votes.
