After a 13-year trial, High Court Judge Viraj Weerasuriya has sentenced Farooq Mohammed Salid (52), a resident of Nanu Oya, to ten years of hard labor for the abuse of a schoolgirl.

The case dates back to 2011 when the parents of the victim filed a complaint with Nanu Oya police regarding the sexual abuse of their 16-year-old daughter.

Following a lengthy legal process, the High Court judge ruled in favor of the prosecution, finding the defendant guilty based on the evidence presented against him.

In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Weerasuriya ordered the defendant to pay a compensation of five lakh rupees to the victim. Failure to pay the compensation would result in an additional three-year extension to the prison term.
