Central Committee of the Ilankei Tamil Arusu Kachchi Party (ITAK) has decided to cancel the appointment of a new general secretary due to several irregularities in the election held for the selection of a general secretary. The party has decided to hold another election.
The party wanted to appoint a general secretary after the appointment of new leader S. Sreedharan MP and six names were nominated. The election of the General Secretary was held in a hotel in Trincomalee yesterday and accordingly, S. Kugadasan was elected.
At this time, there was an allegation that some people raised both their hands and cast their votes, and MP Sumanthiran also confirmed the fact. Also, there was a discrepancy in the reconciliation of the number of votes received with the people who voted, the former MP Mavei Senadhiraja has taken steps to cancel the vote, party sources said.
In addition to this, the clear division and estrangement between the Northern group and the Eastern group made it impossible for the Central Committee of the party to pass any proposal or present many proposals.
The leaders of the party had to adjourn the assembly without proper procedure due to the huge uproar and shouting in the assembly.
A date for the re-convening of the Central Committee or a date for voting has not been announced yet.
