Former President Maithripala Sirisena said today that he bows his head and respects the Supreme Court’s decision, but said that he has absolutely no means to pay the compensation ordered by the Supreme Court.
He further said that a group of close people who are interested in him has decided to collect the money for the due compensation that has to be paid.
He stated that today (15) while attending a ceremony held in Nittambuwa town.
The former president said that he submitted his statement of assets and liabilities to the parliament even when he was the president, and pointed out that anyone can take care of it.
The former president said that he had repeatedly claimed that no one had informed him about the attack and said that he had to pay this compensation based on a court ruling that if the officers appointed by the president commit any wrongdoing, the president will also be held responsible for it.
