Former President Maithripala Sirisena Declines Confidential Statement Regarding Easter Attack

Former President Maithripala Sirisena conveyed to Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama Weerasinghe today (03) that he does not intend to provide a confidential statement before the magistrate regarding the perpetrators of the Easter attack.

President Sirisena asserted that there is no necessity to furnish a statement before the court on the following day concerning the details of the Easter attack, as he has already provided an extensive statement to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

This decision was communicated to the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court through a motion filed by his legal representatives, including attorney Anuja Premaratne.

Former President Sirisena had previously made public remarks suggesting his awareness of the mastermind behind the Easter attack. Subsequently, he made a special announcement through media channels, indicating his willingness to provide a confidential statement to a magistrate regarding the matter.
