Sri Lankan spinner Mahesh Theekshana is set to undergo a medical scan due to a muscle injury. The discomfort was evident during yesterday’s (21) match against the Netherlands.
An official from Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed that the upcoming scan will provide clarity on the extent of the injury. Theekshana had joined the Sri Lankan squad as a late addition to the World Cup roster, having recovered from an injury sustained during the Asia Cup.
As Sri Lanka navigates the ongoing tournament, there remain uncertainties in the team’s planning. Captain Dasun Shanaka has been ruled out of the game for three weeks but will continue to participate in training. Kusal Mendis was initially slated to lead the team, but the plan was altered due to his injury, resulting in leadership duties falling on him in the middle of the tournament.
In other team developments, Dushmantha Chamira and Angelo Mathews have returned to the squad. Both players are reported to have successfully recovered from their injuries. It was previously suggested that two players would have to be sidelined for their inclusion in the squad.
