Luxury Bus Catches Fire on Jaffna to Colombo Route

Passengers Escape Unharmed

A luxury bus traveling from Jaffna to Colombo caught fire today (30), causing significant damage to the vehicle.

The bus had commenced its journey from Jaffna the previous day, departing around 10:30 pm on June 29.


Fortunately, at the time of the incident, all the seats were occupied by passengers, but no injuries were reported. The fire erupted in the Madurankuliya Kariketta area, reducing the bus to ashes.

Authorities swiftly responded to the emergency, with the fire fighting units from the Puttalam City Council and the Palavia Air Force arriving at the scene. They managed to control the fire; however, the bus had already been completely destroyed.

Upon the bus catching fire, the passengers made alternate travel arrangements to reach their destination in Colombo via another bus. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Madurankuliya police.
