President Ranil Wickremesinghe has invoked powers under Section 32-1 of the 52nd Authority of the Excise Ordinance to implement changes in the operating hours of liquor stores, effective from tomorrow (09).
According to the new regulations:
– Liquor stores holding a foreign liquor retail license can now operate from 8 am to 10 pm.
– The Tourism Board has extended the hours for on-premises alcohol consumption without approval, allowing service from 10 am to 11 pm.
– Approved liquor consumption places within premises regulated by the Tourism Board can operate from 10 am to 12 pm.

These changes aim to streamline and regulate the hours of operation for establishments selling foreign liquor and enhance the overall management of alcohol-related activities within the country.
