Liquor sales in Jaffna decreases

Sales of beer and other liquor in Jaffna have dropped significantly, according to a report released by Jaffna Excise officials.

Beer sales in Jaffna fell by 27%, wine sales by 21%, foreign liquor sales by 7.14%, and other local liquor sales by 6.9% according to the report. 

Excise officials in Jaffna say that one hundred thousand liters of beer have been sold in Jaffna in 2019. However, the statistics submitted by the Excise officials at the Jaffna DS office state that the statistics confirm that the number will not exceed 700,000 liters by 2020.

Liquor outlets have been closed for some time due to the corona epidemic that affected the country in 2020, officials said, adding that beer sales in Nallur and Velanai, Japan’s most populous provinces, have fallen sharply.
