Arrangements have been made to present the 20th Amendment to the Constitution to the Attorney General today (31) with a number of amendments, including the repeal of Article 19 of the Constitution, which barred a person with dual citizenship from representing Parliament.
A government spokesman told Lankasara that the government intends to present it to the cabinet meeting on Wednesday (02) and get it approved and passed in parliament within this month.
It is noteworthy that in this amendment, action has been taken to remove the clause which prevented a dual citizen from representing the parliament through the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
It is also said that the proposal to create a Deputy Prime Minister or Vice President has not been considered. Recently, there was an idea that this post would be created in the constitutional amendment on behalf of former President Maithripala Sirisena.
