A special investigation has been launched into the earthquake that was felt in Anura Gama, Haragama, Milepitiya, Digana and Kundasale areas around 8.30 last Saturday (29).
Residents of the area say that a similar incident took place at noon that day and that such incidents have been reported to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.
Several houses in Digana Vijaya Sri Gama have suffered some damage due to such shocks. The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has investigated this on several occasions.
Residents of Digana have been affected by large-scale quarrying in the area. They are questioning what guarantee is given to the safety of their lives when such explosions take place even in the middle of the night during the period when it is forbidden to blow up rocks.
