The leader of the Ilankai Tamil Arusu Kachchi (ITAK) Mavai Senathirajah said in Vavuniya yesterday (29) that a new person would be appointed as the General Secretary of the party and that several decisions would be taken to make the party a success.

The Central Committee of the party was held at a hotel in the Kurumankadu area in Vavuniya.

The Leader of the Tamil National Alliance R. Sampanthan also participated in the discussion. The ITAK is the main political party in TNA.

The party has decided to immediately appoint a new secretary as its current K. Thuraisingham has been the party’s general secretary for a long period.

Meanwhile Mavai Senathirajah also said that the Central Committee had decided that the appointment of Thavarasa Kalaiarasan as the TNA National List Member of Parliament in the Ampara District was legal and that the decision would be communicated to the other two TNA partners, TELO and PLOTE.

Mavai Senathirajah said that the reasons for the decline in the number of seats in the TNA in the 2020 General Elections and the rejection of the TNA by the people were discussed at the meeting and a number of decisions have been taken for the betterment of the party in the future.

Addressing the media at the end of the discussion, MP MA Sumanthiran said that the TNA had faced many allegations during the election season and the party’s disciplinary board had decided to take action on those allegations.

Sumanthiran said that although the Central Committee of the Ilankai Tamil Arusu Kachchi (ITAK) had convened for the first time in 2020, there was much to discuss and therefore nothing could be discussed on the new constitutional amendment.

However, he said that a decision will be taken in the future after looking at the decision taken by the government in this regard and the proposals submitted.
