Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake is optimistic that the election department would not incur such a massive amount of money, though the government has allocated 10 billion rupees for the local government elections.
It is hoped to conduct the elections using a lesser amount of money than the allocated sum.
He mentioned this while addressing the media in Kandy yesterday (08).
The Commissioner General said that it was not the job of the Election Commission to postpone the election and that its responsibility was to implement the legal requirements specified in the Election Ordinance.
The Daily Mirror website has reported that he further expressed his views and said that until a court decision is received, the necessary arrangements would be made to hold the election.
According to the 2022 electoral roll, 16856629 people are eligible to vote.
