The Lanka Coal Company, a state-owned company which has recently been in controversy regarding the offering of a controversial coal tender, has been summoned before the Committee of Public Enterprises of the Parliament (COPE) Committee.
The company has been called before the COPE Committee to further question the controversial situation arising out of a tender given to supply coal to the Lakvijaya Thermal Power Plant in Norachhole.
It was pointed out that the government may suffer a loss of 450 million dollars due to the price indices based on the bidding of this tender, which was given to a recently established and registered company in Dubai with no previous experience in coal importation related to the import of 4.5 million metric tons of coal, and the tender was suspended. The government recently took action.
