The Kalutara North parallel road faced temporary closure today (29) afternoon due to flooding in the Kalutara North area. The situation was exacerbated by rough seas, leading to the disruption of traffic activities in the Abreu Mawatha area.
The adverse weather conditions prompted the retrieval of all fishing boats parked along the shore in the Abru Mawatha area, with traffic in the vicinity coming to a standstill. Additionally, the escalating waves inflicted damage on sections of Abru Mawatha and severely impacted the Abru bridge.
The impact of the inclement weather extended to the coastline, where several coconut trees were uprooted and carried away by the sea. Furthermore, properties belonging to stakeholders in the local tourism industry faced the threat of being swept away by relentless waves.
Efforts were taken to safeguard fishing boats from drifting into the sea by pulling them ashore to mitigate potential damage.
