The latest research facts on Covid spread handed over to the Ministry
Dr Chandima Jeewandara, Director of the Institute of Allergy Immunology Cell Biology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, said that the corona virus strains spreading in the country are more serious and dangerous than we think. The Delta variant has been identified as a threat to unvaccinated or partially vaccinated people he further said.
Based on the recent research findings Dr Jeewandara made these remarks and further said that the relevant research report has been handed over to the Ministry of Health, who is competent to reveal on research findings and publishing the report. However, he further added only thing he has to say was the findings very dangerous.
However, he added that the search for the spreading variants will continue.
He emphasized that the two doses of the Covid vaccine were mandatory and that adherence to health guidelines was essential untill a considerable portion of the population being vaccinated .
When Lankasara inquired about this report from the Deputy Director-General of Health Services, Dr Hemantha Herath, he stated that the relevant report is currently being monitored by the Epidemiology Unit.
The DDG said that various cases of coronavirus, including the Delta variety, have been reported in a number of areas and that the identification of those areas has already begun and the relevant report will be released to the media today.
