A print media journalist of a leading publication has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly assisting underworld figures to transport weapons during the Covid 19 lockdown. According to the Police, the CID had elicited the information during investigations into the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officers arrested for alleged drug smuggling.
According to the Police the journalist aged 30 is a resident of Ambakolawewa, Madamulana. The Police said the suspect had transported weapons in a van belonging to a suspect now under custody during the Covid 19 lockdown to Pitipana, Homagama. Police said he had used his media accreditation to go undetected. CID are carrying out further investigations.
