The Japanese government has expressed its willingness to restart the Malabe Light Rail Transit project which was dropped by Gotabaya Rajapaka government, Lankadeepa Newspaper reported.
Japanese Ambassador Misukoshi Hidenaki has stated tis with President’s Senior Adviser on Climate Change, Ruwan Wijayawardena while in a meeting and he has noted that as soon as the Sri Lankan government reaches an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, it will be resumed.
The meeting between Ruwan Wijayawardena and the Japanese Ambassador took place at the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka.
Ruwan Wijayawardena also mentioned to the media that after the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, the Japanese government is preparing to help Sri Lanka through a number of investment projects.
Ruwan Wijewardena further said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe also discussed this matter during his visit to Japan and there the Japanese government also expressed its willingness to restart this project.
The Auditor General had revealed in a report that due to the suspension of the light rail project, there was a loss of 597.8 crore rupees.
