Jaffna Police apprehended two students from Jaffna University who were involved in stealing mobile phones yesterday (10).
Police investigations have revealed that these two students were grappling with drug addiction, and they resorted to theft to finance their drug habits.
Law enforcement authorities discovered that the two drug-addicted students used motorcycles in their theft operations. They would steal mobile phones and subsequently use the same motorcycles to interact with people and sell the stolen devices.
The Jaffna Police promptly informed the Jaffna University governing authority about the arrest of the two students. Subsequently, two university officials visited the Jaffna Police station and positively identified the suspects.
The Jaffna Police are taking legal action to present the two suspects before the Jaffna court to face charges related to their alleged involvement in mobile phone thefts.
