A Jaffna Municipal Councilor has lodged a complaint with the Northern Province local government Commissioner against the Jaffna Mayor regarding an alleged irregularity in renting a tractor for garbage disposal in Jaffna.
The complaint lodged by a Tamil National Alliance (TNA) member of the Jaffna Municipal Council states that tenders for each tractor carrying garbage ranged from Rs. 42 to Rs. 75 per kilometre. However, the councillor alleges that the Mayor had offered the contract at the rate of 55 Rupees per Kilometer.
The Jaffna Municipal Council has suffered a great loss due to this act which was carried out only with the consent of the Mayor without informing the Municipal Councilors about the tenders. Requested by the Commissioner in his complaint.
