Jaffna Magistrate remands 24 Ava gang members

Jaffna Magistrate Peter Paul has ordered 24 youth out of 26 arrested by the Police to be remanded till June 30. Only two of the youth presented in courts were granted bail today (17).

The group had been arrested when attending a birthday party of a gang leader operating in Jaffna. The Police arrested the group at a house in Maradanaamadam. 

According to the Police, two youth were found to have no criminal connections and was only charged for an illegal gathering and released on a bail of Rs. 10 000 each. 

Police also confiscated eight motorbikes. An insider said investigations are continuing to see if the bikes were used in committing any crimes in the area.
