The CID has submitted a 250-page investigation report on the arson attack on President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence, which occurred on July 9, 2022.The report, spanning 250 pages, outlines various aspects of the incident, including lapses in police duty and preventive measures.

Sources indicate that high-ranking police officials, including the former Inspector General of Police, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Western Provinces, and the Colombo Police Chiefs, have been directly implicated in the report for their failure to prevent the violent attack. Additionally, police station commanders in the area are also said to face accusations related to the incident.

It is noteworthy that several demonstrative operations have already been initiated by the police, such as releasing photographs of suspects to the media, issuing red warrants for the arrest of a former deputy minister’s son, and questioning individuals like former Member of Parliament Hirunika Premachandra and opposition leader’s sister Dulangali Premadasa.

The detailed report, previously held by the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, has now been handed over to President Ranil Wickremesinghe. President Wickremesinghe is expected to take specific actions against police officers who neglected their duties and exhibited questionable behavior in response to the findings outlined in the investigation report. Further updates on this matter are awaited.
