In a strategic initiative aimed at equipping the next generation of media professionals, the Media Law Forum recently conducted an enlightening workshop titled “Strengthening and Empowering Freedom of Expression” for the students of the Department of Media Studies at Jaffna University. Held on January 5th, 2024, this symposium was specifically tailored for third-year undergraduate students pursuing a Mass Communication Honors Degree.

The workshop provided an in-depth education on media laws, emphasizing the proper use of their right to express opinions on social media. Students were also informed about the laws that can suppress this right and learned strategies to combat such suppression. By enhancing the legal literacy of these aspiring professionals, the event sought to prepare them for the dynamic challenges of the Sri Lankan media industry.

Hosted within the premises of Jaffna University, the forum created a platform for students to gain crucial insights and practical knowledge, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate the complexities of media law in their future careers.
