The excavation of the Kokkuthuduwai mass grave is currently underway under the supervision of Mulathiv Magistrate T. Sarawana Raja. Recent findings include skeletal remains, fragments of uniforms, and suspected LTTE soldier weapons.
During the excavation yesterday (08) bombs and ammunition were also discovered by the individuals involved in the digging process.
These mass graves are believed to have been created by LTTE soldiers towards the end of the Great War. Tamil politicians are actively working to bring attention to the international community, claiming that the bodies buried in this mass grave belong to LTTE soldiers who were killed by the Sri Lankan army.
In a meeting held in Jaffna, several Tamil parties extensively discussed the matter and have decided to organize a protest in the North East at the end of this month, demanding justice and the enforcement of the law against those responsible for the Kokkuthuduwai mass grave.
However, it is important to note that at the conclusion of the civil war, neither the Sri Lanka Army nor any other security forces were present in the Mullaitivu Kokkuthuduwai area. This undermines the argument being presented by Tamil political parties, suggesting that the burial is a result of the actions of the Sri Lankan army. Investigations indicate a high likelihood that the LTTE members themselves were responsible for the burial, for reasons yet to be determined.
