Inmates attempting to deliberately contract Covid 19

Prisons Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle has received complaints that many inmates are deliberately trying to contract corona with the intention of escaping.

Prison officials recently told the minister that the main purpose of their plan was to get infected with Covid 19 and escape after being hospitalized or referred to quarantine centers.

According to prison sources, it has been revealed that prisoners addicted to drugs are taking the lead in this.

This was also discussed at a meeting held at the Ministry of Prisons recently under the patronage of the Minister of Prisons Sudarshani Fernandopulle recently.

Prison officials are now questioning whether a group of inmates tried to escape from Bogambara Prison today as part of a plan.

Sources told Lankasara that the Prisons Department has taken steps to conduct a full investigation into the matter.
